Bastion Basics

Gaining a Bastion

Characters acquire a Bastion at level 5. Work with the DM to determine how.

Bastion Turns

By default, a bastion turn occurs every 10 days of in-game time. On a bastion turn, characters may issue orders to their special facilities or issue the Maintain order to their entire bastion.

Combining Bastions

Two or more players can combine their Bastions into a single structure. Doing so does not change the bastion's mechanics, each bastion retains its own hirelings, special facilities, and orders.

Should it be desired, a player may designate another as managing or co-owning all or part of their bastion so that special facilities and hirelings can be shared.

Bastion Resting

Unless otherwise specified by the DM, Bastions are considered safe havens for the purpose of resting. Exceptions may be made for mobile bastions such as ships or wagon trains while they are in transit to a new location or in specific instances such as if a bastion is under attack.

Facility Space

The amount of space in a basic or special facility determines its maximum area in 5-foot squares, as shown in the table below. A player can configure the squares of a facility as they please on their bastion's map. The squares can be stacked so that a facility's area is distributed over multiple levels or stories.

Size Max Area
Cramped 4 squares
Roomy 16 squares
Vast 36 squares

Basic Facilities

Bastions start with two free basic facilities, chosen from the options below. One of the chosen facilities is Cramped, and the other is Roomy. A Bastion can have more than one of each basic facility.

Basic facilities have no special game effects but provide necessary space and comfort. A decorated kitchen is mechanically identical to an undecorated one.
