Description
Grandges City is the capital city of the Great Grandges.
The primary center of government is The Staditoria The Most Glorious Republic of the Great Grandges.
The criminal activities within the city is dominated by a singular criminal society known as The Bricklayers. They are a massive organization whose reach spans across every district and a days walk into the countryside. They are lead by a masked figure known only as Grandfather Barrow.
The main temples within the city are located within the Temple District, however smaller chapels, temples, and shrines can be found all throughout the city. The highest clerical authority within the city is generally considered to be the Monsignor of the Temple of Sperat Nell as they are also, by traditional appointment, the Vicar of the Doge.
The city's wealth primarily comes from the flow of trade due to its central location within the Cresfaller Isles, though native fishing and agricultural industries do exist. Some minor mining and lumber industries contribute to the local market, though they are typically out stripped by imported wares.
The city's defensive structure falls under the jurisdiction of The Third Army of the Great Grandges. The personnel are distributed across various quarters, however their headquarters, known as The Orchard, is within the Noble's Quarters.
Various social hubs exist within the city, however the most notable are the Theater Baltorica of the Noble's Quarter, The Wet Market within the Market Quarter, and Red Lantern Lane on the docks.
City Quarters
The Docks
The docks are nominally run by a captain of the city guard, however the actual authority within the docks is held by a series of gangs who each vie for control over neighborhoods and shops.
While the individual gangs all compete with one another, each pays a tribute to the criminal overlord of the city, The Dockmaster.
The Temple of Psalms is a temple dedicated to Aulus Vala and is the only formally accepted temple within the district. Smaller wayshrines are not an uncommon sight and itenerant priests of all dieties can be found throughout the various pubs and poor-houses. Rumors abound about an secret temple devoted to Nassamana somewhere within the district, though no official channels have been able to substantiate them.
The district is the primary harbor of the entire city and large amounts of trade flows through it. It also houses the city's fishing industry, which provides a large portion of the population's food.
The defenses of the docks is largely left up to the district's guard captain, but the docks is also home to two major defensive features. First, is the Great Sea Gate, a massive stone construction with a cold-iron chain that crosses the inlet gap. Second, is the Lighthouse of Flots, a large lighthouse manned by apprentices of the Wizards of Mott.
Social hubs include a myriad of taverns and brothels, the most notable of which are centered around Red Lantern Lane.
Merchant's Quarter
The merchant quarter is nominally governed by the most senior Monsignior of The Gilda, housed within the Vivalarini House. In actuality, a complex series of loyalties and favors truly decide what laws are and are not enacted within the quarter.
Criminals within the quarter are led by a formalized extention of The Bricklayers under the leadership of the Third Flayer.
Small shrines within the district are scattered throughout and are often tended to by lay-brothers, though frocked priests of the orders regularly make rounds throughout the district to provide guidance and blessings.
The priests of Sperrat Nell are usually in high demand within the district as they are considered to be the highest quality witness for business deals.
The Merchants Quarter is the primary location for commerce within the city with nearly all trade of goods and resources
The local barracks is known as the Palazzo di Rossa.
The primary social hub within the district is The Wet Market, a large bazaar that sells all variety of wares. Within the market is a strong tradition of relazation mixing with business so that the two become inseparable.
Noble's Quarter
The Noble's Quarter is governed directly by the Signoria by the authority of the Doge.
Criminals within the quarter are led by a formalized extention of The Bricklayers under the leadership of the Eldest Son.
The Noble's Quarter has a number of small chapels houses, however the largest of these is the Tiempo delle Ossa, a large relequary temple devoted to Sperat Nell.
Artist's Lane
The Artist's Lane is governed by the the second-most senior Monsignior of The Gilda from within The Grand Workshops.
Criminals within the quarter are led by a formalized extention of The Bricklayers under the leadership of the Hanged Man of the Lane.
The lane district houses very few formal places of worship, however an open-air shrine to Glukain is housed within the Piazza dell Pane.
Although no guards are permanently stationed within the district, guardsmen from the Merchant's Quarter are stationed at major intersections.
The main social hub on the lane is the Piazza dell Pane. Each evening, vendors set up booths and wagons to cater to the craftsmen as their work completes. In recent years, a tradition of spending the evening partaking in the local coffee and a semi-sweet bread has become widespread within the artisan community.
The Temple District
The temple district is governed by the Vescovo of the Tempio del Sole alongside a series of special conclaves of priests across multiple faiths.
Criminals within the quarter are led by a formalized extention of The Bricklayers under the leadership of the Third Flayer.
Nearly all major faiths have some form of chapel or temple within the Temple District, though the main focal point is the Tempio del Sole dedicated to Barbamachollo. The temple also houses the Wizards of Mott.
The district's laws and customs are enforced by the militant branches of the temples, primarily led by the First Paladin of Barbamachollo.
The temples themselves are the most usual social hubs within the district, however many other taverns exist as well. The most frequented by clerics is the Mille Delizie.
