Ship's Crew
Crew Usage Die
The crew of a ship are the unnamed hands that run lines, scrub decks, and keep everything running. The crew's skill, experience, and morale is tracked by a Crew Usage Die.
The Crew Usage Die starts at Ud8 for all ships.
Crew Checks
Ships must make a Crew Check any time the crew is under undue hardship such as casualties, poor health, or lack of pay.
Specific Ship Abilities can affect the Crew Usage Die such as Good Berths or Improved Sickbay.
Alternative Crew Checks
As an alternative to the general rules for when to make a crew check, certain situations may call for a Tension Pool to be used. Under these circumstances, each time the tension pool triggers a consequence, the Crew Usage Die is rolled.
Mutiny
When the Crew Usage Die is fully depleted, the officers must succeed on a relevant group check or else the crew mutinies.
Should the mutiny be put down non-fatally, the Crew Usage Die increments to Ud4.
Incrementing the Crew Usage Die
Below is a non-exhaustive list of ways the Crew Usage Die may be incremented. In general, if the ship's officers spend time and resources to improve the crew's morale, the DM should increment the Crew Usage Die.
Shore Leave
If the Crew Usage Die is a d6 or lower, increment the die by one tier for three days anchored in a safe harbor.
Sharing Loot
If loot is shared out, the Crew Usage Die increments by one tier.
