NPC's may be hired for specific jobs or as longer-term companions. Hirelings will be under player control during encounters. Long term hirelings may become sidekicks and level with the party.
Hirelings Price
The cost of a hireling is dependent on their training, the expected level of danger, any specialized skills the hireling posses, and the expected duration of the contract.
| Training | Base Daily Cost |
|---|---|
| Unskilled | 2sp |
| Skilled | 2gp |
| Adventurer | 2pp |
Most unskilled, and many skilled, laborers will turn down contracts with expected hazard. Those that do not will expect anywhere from a 50% to a 200% increase in their pay. Adventurers pay typically includes hazard pay in their base cost due to the expectations of their profession. Especially skilled adventurers usually expect a cut of the party's profits in addition to their base rate.
If a hireling with a specific skill proficiency is needed, the cost may increase or they may only be found in larger towns or cities.
Hiring Magical Services
Magical services can be hired in most large cities. The cost is based on the required spell level and material components. Most temples will not charge for healing spells more than the market price for consumed material components, though some seek to make a profit.
