Cargo Slots

Each ship's description lists the number of cargo slots available on-board. While in port, each cargo slot may be left empty or filled with a trade cargo or Ship's Supplies. At least one slot must be filled with supplies before your crew is willing to leave port.

Ship's Supplies

Ship's Supplies are an abstract representation of the mundane items a ship needs to function such as food, water, rope, lamp oil, ammunition, powder, or crew payroll. They are managed as a unit via a usage die.

While individuals may access the ship's supplies, they are separate from personal equipment. When the ship's supplies are pulled from, the individual may pull any mundane item into their inventory worth less than 10 gp and the ship must make a Supplies check.

Supplies can be purchased at most ports for 30 gp, though specific ports may charge more. They cannot be crafted without the infrastructure of a large town or high-tier bastion.

Supplies Usage Die

Each ship's supplies are represented by a single usage die. For every cargo slot filled with Supplies, ship's Supplies Usage Die increases by one step along the standard chain.

Supply Checks

Ships much make a Supplies check at the start of each voyage at sea. Additional checks may be required for situations that drastically increase the supplies use such as repairing the ship, after a naval engagement, or specific encounters.

Specific Ship Abilities can affect the ship's supplies such as Improved Pantry or Light Load.

Penalties to Depleted Supplies

When a ship's supplies are fully depleted, it no longer has the ability to feed its crew, make effective repairs, and engage in combat. Standard starvation rules apply and are tracked daily, all ship-board weapon attacks and repair checks are made at disadvantage, and the ship has the stressed condition until the ship is resupplied.

If the ship's crew morale is being tracked via a Crew Usage Die, each leg of the voyage provokes a check of the crew's usage die.
